The Lustre software layouts represent how file data is distributed over OSTs. Originally, only simple RAID0 (striping) layouts were supported, and enhancements were required to implement features such as Data on MDT, File Level Redundancy, live Data Migration, and RAID-1/5/6 or erasure coding. The Layout Enhancement (LE) project is a prerequisite for the Data on MDS and Replication projects proposed here. Design and Architecture documents relating to file layouts (striping) were written to ensure a consistent approach was taken by all of these projects.
